Motivation, Determination and Discouragement

It’s pretty tough to stay motivated in this mixed up world. Finding a way to keep on the path you had planned is really difficult. It’s not just about not giving up. Because with so many people fighting for the same things, you have to go above and beyond. And it’s tough to find the motivation and determination to do that, when everything around you is discouraging you.

It’s the beginning of a new year, and that helps give you a push of some sort. But that push never seems to last as long as we want it to, and when we start to slip, we remember all the resolutions we’ve made in years prior that fell through. More discouraging thoughts. Isn’t there a way to harness that motivation we all have on January 2nd? We could reuse it during economic times like these, when all there are are discouraging thoughts.

It’s funny, I started thinking about this post a few weeks ago and didn’t get around to sitting down to write it until today. And just as I was getting into it, “The Company Men” came on TV. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about corporate downsizing and how that affects the lives of three men and their families. It’s a pretty clear picture of how hard it really is out there, and how discouraging it is.We will win. Why? Because we have faith, courage enthusiasm.

We will win. Why? Because we have faith, courage enthusiasm.

Faith, courage and enthusiasm are things that are difficult to come by. Sometimes you have to manifest those things out of thin air, at a time when there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It’s difficult to imagine that that is even possible sometimes. But you have to. You can’t let the tough times harden you and take away your faith, courage and enthusiasm.

It’s difficult to succeed in something that’s off the beaten path. There’s no clear cut way to get to where you want to be, so you have to cut your own path. Was I prepared for that when I signed up for this? No, not at all. But I wouldn’t have it any other way at this point. As long as I remind myself to have faith, courage and enthusiasm, I’ll succeed.
