Working’s overrated anyways

So I got the call this morning.  After two months worth of meetings, calls, and telling me that they wanted to hire me, Fatima from Best Beverage called me today and said that they’re not going to hire me.  They can’t afford to hire me right now and train me for a few months.  They’re too small of a company to be able to afford that with the economy the way it is right now.  Now normally I would understand.  But for the past two months they’ve been telling me that they want to hire me, they’ve told me they’re excited about my other experience – I could help them with their shelf-talkers and custom labels because of my print and design background.  They told me they thought I would be a great addition because I’m young and already so passionate and knowledgeable about wine.  I’m not sure what changed their mind in the past few weeks, but I’m feeling a bit cheated and led on.  I understand the economy’s tough right now, and I understand that I am young and inexperienced, but that didn’t seem to be a factor in the early stages of my interviews with them.

So what am I going to do now?  That’s the question of the day.  Short answer:  I have no idea.  I’ve been applying to hotels and restaurants and liquor stores for the past few months and haven’t heard anything.  I applied to work in tasting rooms at wineries and wait tables at restaurants.  And I’ve still heard nothing.  I could try and find a job in Print, but when I was job hunting in that field while I was still at Hasbro I still heard nothing.  So I guess for now, I’m going to keep looking.  Yes, California’s still an option, but do I want to move to california for a job I don’t 100% want and live in a city I don’t want to live in?

Life is too stressful.  I’m going to follow my Dad’s advice and just get drunk.  As long as I’m drinking wine, it’s research, right?

  1. Not cool at all – especially after reading your entry about your 2nd interview with them. That was totally unprofessional to lead you on like that and then just say “Sorry, we can’t hire right now” Sorry 😦
